Hey Folks,
I've been lurking long enough and feel that it is time to ask a question.
Preservation of these old locomotives and their every day use is of upmost importance. However, wear and tear of use is slowly using them up. The question is what is the practicality of constructing a replica of, oh say for arguments sake the c-25 #375 for use on everyday pulls and saving the old irreplacable locomotives (in a controlled environment) only for the occasional pull
I'm sure cost is the primary concern that would prevent this, but would like to hear opinions from those in the know.
BTW, after over 30 years of wanting to, I finally rode the train last August along with my family. I would like to again this year, but that may be a pipe dream for now. Last years trip was fantastic especially since we were able to tour the shop, and climb in the cabs of 463, 487 and 489.
thanks in advance
Doug
