Bret,
One problem is that there isn't much in the way of adaptive re-use for a wooden flatcar. A boxcar or a stockcar can be a shed, coach or caboose a house, what do you do with a flat? I've always wondered if some of the ratty old buildings in South Baker might be built on a flatcar foundation. In the house that Jerry is renting, there looks to be part of a sidesill used in the floor. It is an extreme pity what happened to the SLC flat, luckily Laura took a large number of photographs, so restoration is quite possible. Also, there was a 76600 series flat in the yard until the 1960's, but it was unfortunately scrapped instead of going with the other equipment to the Black Hills Central. The idler flat is about as close to a complete flat that we have right now.
