I have just spoken to the state auditor. She did not know of the audit request, but was helpful in describing the process and how we can help ensure an audit. The best thing for anyone to do is to make contact with a Colorado State Rep and get them to request the audit.

To email Castle Rock Rep, Victor Mitchell, whom according to the article is already receptive to the idea, to support his request of the audit: victor@victormitchell.org

Of course, if you have a State Rep in Colorado that will listen to you, by all means, ask them to do the same thing Mitchell is doing (hopefully).
