C&S Baggage car

April 08, 2001 07:28PM
I saw the C&S & F&CC cars in september of 1999. The C&S car may well be beyond hope. When it was "restored" at the Stuhr, they chopped the end walls off & moved them back a couple of feet so that the car would have platforms. It also appeared that the origingal frame (center, intermediate & side sills) had been removed and replaced with a home made steel frame. The car was riding on D&RGW freight car trucks with no brakes.
The F&CC car was a little better off. It too had a new steel frame, but at least the original sills were still there. The rest of the equipment was literally rotting away. None of the museum staff seemed to know or care about it.
In case you can't tell, the whole thing pissed me off. I can only hope that they have the sense to give it to someone who will care about it. In my opinion, they do not deserve to have any of it.
