OK Micheal,
After spending the last almost 7 years working on the 315 and crawling around on the 42 it could easily be a $2,000,000.00 project don't foreget it's only good for certain types of use, specials, movies and possibly Cascade trains in the winter if the train has only a small load that day. It would take tons of trips to make up the $$$ spent, and then you still have to do all the mantaiance on locomotive and all the FRA paper work.
We spent close to $500,000.00 on 315 not including over 30,000 volunteer hours, true the D&S could do the job faster but they still have 476 to rebuild and keep the rest of the engines running, so I think they have other things to consider first befoe a 42 restoration.
I'd like to see it run but don't think I'll live that long.
