Where in Bakersfield? Someplace open to the public? Next time I go to the other Loop - Tehachepi - I'd like to make a detour and check it out.

If I remember correctly, the 4-8-0's were the primary freight power over the Sierras in the 1890's, before the early cab-forwards. S.P. also built a 4-10-0, but it was a "girly-man", with a firebox was too small to produce enough steam for its oversized cylinders. It was named "El Gobernador", Spanish for "Das Gubernator" ... eye rolling smiley
