When the first 24 UTLX Van Dyke (gramps) cars arrived on the D&RGW they had standard gauge trucks. They were given 4'8" Andrews trucks Borrowed from 5900 series Stock cars. These stock cars had to have had the trucks replaced with something else, perhaps 3' 7" archbars. They ran on these replacement trucks for about 6 months until ASF made some new trucks for UTLX. THese were the 4'8" Andrews trucks with intregal journals, most of which went with the Narrow frame tanks to Alaska and came back with them. We know that the stock cars remained in service as correspondance survives instructing the cars to be routed to Alamosa to be placed back on the Andrews trucks. If they were placed on 3'7" wb trucks they would have had to change the brakes to outside hung. Or perhaps the recieved trucks from retired 30 foot reefers, Maybe John Templeton has that info in his AFE files.
