Re: Narrow Gauge Truck Size

Another curiosity that I have noticed about the Q&TL trucks is that many, if not all, are equipped with brakeshoes that appear to have been intended for standard gage, 33" dia. wheels. The contact contour matches their 24" dia. wheels, while the radius on the hanger side corresponds to a 33" dia. wheel. So the thickness of the shoe vaires because of these non-concentric radii.

I assume that they either applied the oversize brake shoes and let them wear into the non-matching wheel diameter -or- they cast the shoes with the 33" dia. mold, but modified it to cast the proper wheel contour. Is there anything like this in western n.g. practice?
