Dave and John, I agree with both of you about the Friends need to do a better job about putting the word out to the public. I can assure both of you and others that this was no secret. It has been mentioned in the Dispatch several times. The ACNGS2 fundraising campaign brochure, which is on the Friends web site talks about it there as well. While it was mentioned in broad terms, you have to remember that it had been in the idea stage for quite some time, and there wasn't anything concrete to report until lately.
The uproar caused by the proposed building has brought the issue of 'getting the word out' in a timely manner to the front burner. Most of the Friends directors would probably agree about the need, and are working on it.
Please remember that the Friends of the C&TS exists ONLY to support the railroad. That building will be on commission land being built with a public grant money. I am SURE that every state will have their lawyers review the proposal to check for its legality.
Everyone in the Friends board is a volunteer just like us 'grunts' and they are sweating along side of us at work sessions too. None of us get paid and do all of this volunteer work in our free time, so that might be some cause for the delay.
John, you are no pita, we owe you and the founding group ALOT for helping save the railroad we all love. Without your efforts, there would BE NO RAILROAD! Thanks! John
