Dennis,
I spent a few days with Bill Duggan last month, and he gave you nice compliments for the work that you did on #204. He also gave a little insight to the uphill battle it takes to keep a 36" gauge railroad alive in Guatemala.
Short story is that the political situation there has once again shifted. see
[www.rrdc.com] RRDC has done an extraordinary job of rebuilding the railroad in Guatemala, and the current political situation is making it difficult for RRDC.
Advice being the worst vice, if you are reading this and have had mild thoughts of visiting a place where 36" narrow gauge is transcontinental in Guatemala(but does not run west now), your future chances may be slim. John West posted a little note on this website last year for a Guatemala excursion, and I am grateful that he did. I am also grateful for digital photography after taking over 1,000 pics. In Guatemala, the people were friendly, the nightly accomodations were first class, and the food was good. If there are any more opportunities for another hosted excursion, this chance may not come again.
I don't know about pulling equipment out of Guatemala. The equipment is owned by the government of Guatemala.
