The Colorado Railroad Museum had a sign on display from "Mears Junction." If you looked very close at this sign, painted underneath the words & upside down were the letters from another station.
I asked Bob Ricardson about this. His reply was that the D&RGW had a paint crew with box car. They had their materials of paint & wood in the car and would move over the system refreshing painted items. Probably they knew of the next locations and would paint the signs in advance. Thus hanging the newly painted sign and then using the wood to repaint over for another location.
I'm not sure of the letters hidden thru fading paint on the Mears Jct sign, but Bob said it was from a station in Utah.
This sign was donated by the CRRM at the 2003 Narrow Gauge Modeler's Convention at Denver, then sold in an auction. Not sure, but I think the later Bill Knoos bought it.
The museum may have had this sign as an extra item, still displaying one for visitor's. I haven't been to the museum since, not sure what is displayed now.
