The 1204 is being completley rebuilt.
Yes, Sumpter Valley Machine Works (SVMW) appears to be doing a beautiful job rebuilding #1203, judging by the photos they have posted here.
Darren's post reminded me that I was meaning to ask two questions about 1203:
(1) She looks to be rather big. Of course, she would have to be big if she is going to be used to pull a train up the hill, a task that the GLRR found it needed both of its diesels for. Anyone know for sure just how big is she compared to the GLRR, Inc's diesels?
When I hiked along the loop during 2004, I observed some really tight clearances. Will #1203 actually fit through all these tight locations, such as the curved cut at the bottom of the interstate's fill?
(2) How soon is 1203 moving to Silver Plume? Today is May 10, while the Loop's Opening Day is May 26.... meaning there are exactly 14 days left to prepare for the first revenue train. If 1203 is going to be in Silver Plume in time for opening day, it seems to be that there should be a flatbed arriving at the SVMW very soon!
