I'll weigh in.
The spreadsheet layout I designed and started using for my checkbook in 1974 in the Macintosh is still in use today on my PC. I've looked at Quicken and a few others and still feel my spreadsheet is best for me.
I also learned FORTRAN in 1974, graduated (dumbed down??) to BASIC and have used several programming languages including C++ for work (I program automated test equipment for electronics manufacturers).
When I got big ideas for live steam, I did not want to manually make lots of axles or wheel sets nor spend lots of bucks on NC machines. I figured out how to interface an old 80286 based AT to my metal lathe and used BASIC to control it. I got tired of supporting old MFM drives and switched to a 486 and C.
I'm always open to new things but being new does not always mean better, just different. I know a few friends who find change difficult and for those I recommend staying with what they are comfortable with.
