Thanks Earl, I had forgotten to add that the big Powell was a WOV (without valve) as built and had a separate Lunkenheimer whistle valve piped up just underneath her. The guy that made the beautiful music up on the Olympic Peninsula was a Rayonier engineer named Clark Pennick. Dan Ranger & I had use of this same whistle in the summer of 1972 on the Klamath & Hoppow Valley in Northern Calif. Try as I might, I was never near as good as Clark was with it. Some folks are just masters at their craft...and I suppose he was one of them.
