Skiing on La Veta?

February 14, 2007 11:42PM
Jerry, et al,
My father has told me that he rode a couple of the ski trains up Cumbres in the late thirties. He could not offer many details unfortunately.
He also once told me that he and some others would catch the eastbound standard-gauge passenger train and ride it up La Veta pass and then were dropped off somewhere and skied down on a full moon night to be picked up or to where they left a car(?). I think they did this a couple of times. Again, this was in the late thirties or at least before WW2. I need to ask him about this to find out some more details. Have you ever heard of such activity on La Veta Pass?
