The mention of the K&S (Kaslo and Slocan) touches a soft spot for me as I have poked around the Kootenay Lk. are of B.C. from time to time. It is an area rich in both RR and Lake Steamer history. The K&S NG was built and controlled by none other than James Hill of the Great Northern who along with the CPR had Steam boat service on the lake and down to Bonner's Ferry Id. Both The K&S and the STd. gauge Arrowhead and Kootenaay farther up the lake connected to the "outside world" by RR barge carried along side the sternwheelers. Another great book that has some K&S history is "McCulloch's Wonder".
