I was looking at some drawings of the Chama roundhouse and the majority of the stalls were 67' long. The stall that enters the machine shop benefits from an additional 40' or so. Stall 3 was also interesting because of the way the back wall of the house intersected with the shop building. This one was probably on the order of 71' long or so.
Looking at a drawing I have of a 490 it is about 64' long without couplers. So it would have fit into a stall but the nose would be toching the wall with just enough room to shut the door.
A K-36 on the other hand is a longer beast because of the tender. My drawing shows about 64' minus the couplers. Then there is the 487 with its pilot plow to consider.
BTW my model of Chama has a 65' turntable for turning my K-36. I haven't decided whether I will build an elongated roundhouse yet. I figured I would build a 5 stall house to reflect later years prior to the final trimming down to two stalls.
