Had no end of problems steaming an engine earlier this year - no one had told us that it had been fitted with an internal spark arrestor (the "I only work here I don't know what is going on" syndrome) and the bloody thing was blocked! Found it eventually (the loco in question has a reputation as a poor steam raiser) and cleaned it - problem solved..... too late for that day though.
