Indeed #30 needed to pull hard as the 5% grade from Rainbow Junction to American Switch was a nice tug. As for the RGS buying Uintah engines I had always thought that their main intrest was in the articulates (even though they would have required much more track work) as the #30 was in storage in Dragon for several years in the 1930's and was buy 1938, 27 years with only one major overhaul to its boiler.
