My son has gone railroading on the BNSF and they do not carry re railing equipment. In another coupla weeks he will get his bona fides as a conductor. The only advice I gave him was to listen to the old heads and never (ever) stand between the rails or in a pinch point.
My question: Is the C&TS required to carry re railing equipment or is it done as a matter of history or is it because they need to re rail cars more often than the standard gauge carriers? I have been aboard a train that went on the ground so I know it happens but is not much talked about.
Or is there another reason that I haven't yet thought of. Also it would seem to me to be a bit difficult for one man on the BNSF (of any other RR) to pack all the necessary equipment for a mile or so to the derailed car now that crews have been cut to two people.
