Mike,
I understand and respect your point of view, but from a historical point of view it just doesn't make much sense. Yes it's bold and flashy and would get a lot of attention, but so would recreating an authentic D&RGW freight train with a mid or rear train helper--what would you rather see? You could even put one of the balloon stacks on one of the K-28's and say your recreating a train that could have ran out of Durango (albeit to Chama not Silverton)with a K-36 and K-28 or 2 36's in the early 1960's. I just see the potential to showcase history and let the masses see what the ng really looked like during it's time. I know the Bumblebee scheme would only be temporary--just from a historical aspect it doesn't seem right to me and that is my opinion. I'm just glad that the bee scheme didn't catch on with the ng fleet in the early 50's, but I guess if it did I might have a model of a K-37 in the bumblebee scheme--who knows. I thought that the recreation of the bee scheme for the 473 was appropriate and I was trying to get the D&S to put together a short informational flyer of the history of the 473 and the bee scheme so those non-railfans would know why it was painted that way--not sure if they ever put it out there last year at Railfest. I'll stop rambling now--but I just think that during an event like Railfest they would have the opportunity to recreate some type of ng history and show the masses what the ng is and was all about.
