I've read a lot of posts on historic vs. money making ventures, but the Jerry Day post is over the line, by a long shot. It is an insult to most who post on this board.
To quote..."You are wasting your time with many of the folks on this list. They do not care about history, they only want to play with their 1:1 trains."
Mr. Day's post has little to do with historical accuracy, it has to do with his own ego...and furthering his own personal agenda that he is some kind of "keeper of the historic holy grail".. Sir, you are not.
Nonsense. This kind of historic accuracy "Zealot ism" is ultimately self defeating and ends up with someone yelling.."The Emperor Has No Clothes."
The quest for information about what happened "Way back then" is not a story about what we know today. It is an ever evolving saga that brings new information each and every day, as we know more. It is the "Joy" of the journey of historic discovery that unfolds anew, each and every day...and the information collected grows each and every day, month and year.
To accuse most on this board of not caring, is nonsense that I am sure most will recognise.
From the time of the era of saving what is now known as the C&TS, all of us knew that there would have to be compromises if the RR ever had a chance of economic survival. Most of us continue to work with that thought of "necessary compromise" if our long-term end goal is to be attained.
For some, who like to put-down and insult all those on this board who are history/RR motivated, we do not need any more put-downs Mr.Day.
Navigating the perilous path of accuracy vs. ridership, is not an easy task and is only made more difficult by angry put-downs from historic zealots...who seem to come from the position of "My way- or the highway".
Sorry, but there are more genuine railroad history buffs on the board than some realize, and who feel that compromise is always the way to eventual success. Compromise is an ever changing endeavor, and grows each day, as does our increasing knowledge that helps us grow, in our knowledge of what really happened.."Way back when"!
The search for the truth is a fluid, ever changing process. It's the journey, not the destination.
