First point, the amount of polutants all the coal burning steam locomotives in the USA produce in a year equals at the most the output of 1 coal power plant in a year.
Second point, steam locomotion without a doubt changed the world faster and more completely than any other one thing in the history of man and deserves recognition, and preservation.
So the various groups and individuals who wold have the fires permamently put out should think of the world around them and realise that all of this branches frome the power of steam and the things it allowed to occur (deep mines, fast transport of ideas, accelerated development, advanced industry, ect) and hopfully let it go and concentrate on more important things sutch as doing the two things that will most drasticly decrease consumer pollution, raise the gas tax, and increase mass transit
