VERY interesting indeed! Appears you guys managed that project in under fifteen seconds. And the enthusiasm shown by the crew as they flit from point to point is positively amazing. HA! Sorry, just kidding.
Seriously, appears the lift is limited to the smokebox area while firebox end is being slid, is that correct? Regardless, just wonderful to see work progressing.
I still get a major chuckle when I recall Louis B. Menk's remarks about Q 5632 and 4960 after he'd taken over following retirement of the former (classic railroader) President, Harry Murphy. Murphy had, among his last deeds in office, ordered shopping of 5632. Menk, I'll refer to him as a modern cost-cutting manager type, immediately curtailed work and announced termination of Murphy's beloved steam program overall, citing among other things the fact that the parts and expertise to maintain steam locomotives were no longer available. That was 1965! Well, it may not be accomplished on an Alco or similar scale today, but it's pressed on nonetheless and the skills have been passed down and are continuing to be so today.
Thanks to ALL who "work on steam."
