I'd say,"Go for it!!" I've visited a few pioneer museums where a photographer offers the type of picture you are contemplating. In each case, there was a selection of clothing available to fit the period being displayed. The clothing was simply "false-front" with velcro fastenings at the back, so that the person could quickly don the garment, pose, then remove it. You could also get into sepia prints to give the photo an old-time look.Hope this helps in your decision.
