There were lots of other 4-8-2 class engines in South Africa. In fact I would venture to say that the 4-8-2 wheel arrangement was the dominant one in the last 30 years or so of South African Steam. Other classes were 15A, 15AR,15F, and the largest were the 23 class. In addition there several other classes like 15, 14, etc. Almost forgot the 19 class and 19D which were quite common engines. I don't know the exact number but I bet the number of 4-8-2's built for operations in South Africa might rival the numbers that ran in the U.S. There were literally hundreds of them. They even had some "Baby Berkshires" 2-8-4's.
