Of the frameless cars, 1 was sold to the Sumpter Valley, and 6 were sold to the CYCX (Texaco)in the very early 1930's. The CYCX cars left for Hawaii during WW2. These were Non Heater cars. About half of the remaining 30 odd Narrow frame cars were also non heater cars and as such were unusable for road oil or Gramps service. In fact the unheated cars were not used much after 1950, if at all. UTLX explored the idea of equipping the unheated cars with heaters in the early 1950's and evidently rejected it as not cost effective. The narrow gauge frame cars also were not suitable for conversion back to standard gauge with out a major rebuild.
I suspect the Van Dyke cars survived for the extra year because there were still 6500 gal frameless cars being used by UTLX customers in the 60's and these could have been placed back on standard gauge trucks and the KC and KD brake gear upgraded to modern standards. I believe tht they had sold a couple to the White Pass just a couple of years earlier.
