The equipment move with the 483 was in September, 1970 with Ben Greathouse at the throttle. What burned was the roof of the tank. Most of the tank and the supports survived.
I rode the train in 1971, the first year of revenue runs and the tank was there, unrepaired. the probable cause of the fire was a railfan on the roof, taking pictures of the equipment moves.
