Lava Tank....last use?

I wonder if the C&TS ever used Lava tank. Obviously if it burned in 1971 they could not have used it very long, and the fact it burned suggests it had been empty for awhile. So I'm guessing the last use of Lava was by the DRGW. And I wonder if the DRGW kept it full right to the end or not.
