For anyone interested...this photo was taken from a city street in Escuintla with the market behind the photographers back. The roundouse is just to the left of the large steel water tank showing over the cars.
These two locomotives did move around just a little between the 6 visits that I made to Guatemala from 1971 to 1977. I had some black & whites photos that showed a railroad crane lifting the boilers off of the frames in early 1972.
I was good friends with the Road Foreman, Jose M. Pineda. He shrugged his shoulders when I asked him about the pair...his response was something about being good pullers, but taking a lot of work.
They were originally tried out on the 16 miles of 3.7% between Escuintla & Palin, but eventually settled in on mixed locals between Mazatenango & Escuintla. The 150 series Mikados were rated at 200 tons up Palin Hill, the articulateds only 250 tons. This info from EMP TT #23.
