Andy,
I understand what you are saying about threshold levels of pollutants being the level below which there is no known health hazard. I also understand that, in the case of some pollutants, the threshold level is unknown.
But Mr. Urbonas asserted, “There’s no pollution level that’s safe.” That would mean that there is no such thing as a threshold level of any pollutant. Or another way of saying it would be that the threshold levels of all pollutants are zero.
Obviously that is not true since, as you have pointed out, there are known, established threshold levels for many common pollutants, and those levels are somewhere above zero. Mr. Urbonas himself has stated that the smoke emissions from the D&S are below the threshold level for such emissions. Certainly the established threshold level for such emissions cannot be zero. If it were, the D&S emissions would have to be less than zero, which would be impossible.
I stand by my contention that Mr. Urbonas’ statement is unscientific. I would even say that is is illogical. Furthermore, not only does his statement conflict with science and logic, it also conflicts with what you have said about threshold levels, and it conflicts with his own statement that the D&S emissions are below the threshold level.
