I think they came to the conclusion nothing could be done with a modern coal burning engine since the price of oil went down, meaning there was no viable reason to attempt it. Either way it sure was a cool thing to see a C&O steamer hauling loaded and empty coal trains for a month during the winter of 1985 on home rails. This has to be in the top 5 best steam experiences in the US in the post steam era!!!
Maybe Mr. Craft can post a photo for us!!
