If you recall back in the 80's, Ross Rowland was doing tests with his ex-C&O Greenbriar #614 to determine if a new type of coal fired steam engine could be created; the Ace2000 project. He came to the conclusion that the diesel- electric was still the way to go. I have a feeling that this is still the case.
