The Question as put forth should be undeerstood as follows.
1-Any Freight Traffic that went South and West would be loaded on the NG.
2-Any Freight loaded and going to Salida and Points west to Gunnison and Montrose prior to 1951
would have been loaded on the NG
The Book "Narrow Gauge Glory " mentions that hay was brought over from Alamosa and fedd to the Elk in the Jack's Cabin Area.
3-The reason that the La Veta Pass Lione was standard gauged was to reduce the Transfer costs of GN to SG at Salida, Pueblo and Denver since San Luis Valley Products were being shipped across the country and als the transfer of Creede Concentrates was extremely costly in time and manpower, and always was a subject of complaint by the Mine Owners since the value of the concentrate fluctuated and they were usually paid the market price on delivery at the Smelter, Refer to Norwood Book 1 and the trapped concentrates trapped in Silverton in 1951.
