It is probably well known that I left after the C&TS after first year of the Black Bart era. I saw what was going to happen in a year or two, no one would listen, and after being there 17 years, I couldn't stand to see what was inevitable. That and other personal reasons made me jump ship.
I went to Texas and worked as passenger operations manager for a RR in Ft Worth. After that I've been in the shortline freight RR biz since then. I went back to the C&TS on a seasonal basis in 2001 and worked in 2002 until the Forest Service shutdown. At that time, RGRPC eliminated my position, then later filled it with another long term employee.
At that point I went back to shortline railroading. In 2004 I worked for the D&S as a brakeman. The idea being I would do that in the summer and do contract work in the off season. The price of housing in Durango killed that idea.
I now live in Globe, AZ and work for the Arizona Eastern RR. It's not steam, its not narrow gauge, but it certainly pays better.
I'd rather keep my opinions of the current state of affairs to myself.
