I do not belive this to be correct.
Of the types of feedwater heaters I am somewhat familiar with, all required an array of external plumbing, pumps, and hardware (Elesco and Worthington) or a large internal tank (Coffin) in an extended smokebox. No K- series engines have or ever had anything like this.
Your source may have confused feedwater heaters with internal superheaters, which both the 470's and 480's carry for sure. 490's may have carried superheaters, probably did. I'm sure not all of the 15 Mudhens had them, if any.
