We had a segment on Verde Canyon in our 4th America by Rail video, which Les shot. I can tell you it was a sleeper segment. You will enjoy it as they had air conditoned cars to get out of the sun, and open covered cars to enjoy the views. They run f-units as well! Nothing historic, but a great operation with true CANYONS,
and a nice train ride.
One other comment on the C&TS. A lot of folks like riding out of Antonito to Chama since the scenery there is probably the least attractive on the railroad, and it continually gets better all day. Then arriving in Chama, you have all the yard structures and other authentic stufff to enjoy. Take the bus to Antonito in the Morning, and ride to Chama. Then when the train arrives in Chama, you are home for the night!!!
Do try to chase the train to Cumbres the next morning before you head west if possible. For a steam fan there is NO BETTER place in America!!! Bar none!!! Same engines have been running these rails since 1925 or thereabouts!
Have fun, and post a photo or three for us when you get home.
