And on the D&S, insist on seats in an open gondola car for the best all-around viewing - don't ride in the regular coaches. Also, if you want the best view from the high line in the morning when you're probably the "freshest," get seats on the right side of the train. You'll still have a great view from the highline on the left side, but that's when you're returning to Durango in the lazy afternoon, and I've never thought the experience is quite the same then. There's just such a sense of drama as the train passes through the Rockwood cut in the morning and then the fantastic high line view bursts upon you. It seems like a drum roll and fanfare would be most appropriate to introduce it!
