I think the old boy in question is already way, way over the edge and needs to be called exactly what he is, a self centered moronic jackass. He is shredding his life long collection and sending it to other people who care about it as a F*&% YOU. How much more over the edge can you get?
I don't know about you, but I save the stuff I save because I don't want it to be destroyed. If some one else were to use my collection as the basis for their own book, who cares. I served my purpose by saving it for those who care about it. If you are collecting information and artifacts just so you can have them and keep them away from everyone else, then you are a self centered moronic jackass. The @#$%& that is at the center of this thread is just taking his self centeredness to a new level by not only keeping his collection away from the world during his life but by making sure tht it dies with him and no one else gets to see "his" stuff. What a legacy!
What if Bob Richardson had adopted this tactic and scrapped everything that is now the Colorado Railroad Museum once he felt he may lose control over it? Would anyone out there say "I understand why he did it"?
Folks like Bob Richardson are why those of us who care about narrow gauge railroads have something left to care about, folks like the idiot at the center of this thread don't deserve to have anything come their way and need to be called what they are. Folks who sympathise with such idiots and make excuses for them are just as bad.
