I think I will pass on this one. Palisade is in a pretty part of Nevada, but it is VERY ISOLATED.
While there is a dirt road going to it, the parcel where the town of Palisade was located is land locked by the railroads. It would be impossible to get out of town with a narrow gauge. Even then, where would one go?
I think the auction site promoting the old town site is very misleading. There is absolutely nothing at Palisade. The article and the photo leaves the impression that something is still there. Having been there a number of times, the only inhabitants anywhere near are a ranch a couple miles away up Pine Creek, and else where what looks like a run down house occupied by a bunch of bohemian hippies. Maybe they are not, but by the looks of the place I have got to think they are refugees from planet Earth trying to communicate with UFOs.
The nearest town is Carlin, some eight miles north east, and Elko about 30 miles east. Perhaps the best thing about Palisade today is its isolation. However, in terms of doing something with as to the preservation of narrow gauge history, there is nothing left but dirt and consequently nothing to preserve. If I had Bill Gates resources, maybe I would rebuild the place, but since I don't, I will have to be content with what I have. And, believe me,that is a big enough project for one guy.
