480,
I agee the shop crews of the C&TS deserve recognition for excellent work.
489 needs running gear and boiler work. This locomotive will take longer to refurbish than the previous three. Having identical engines has paid off as interchangeable parts can be borrowed which has happened to some degree so replacement parts will be harder to come by for 489.
When work was begun on 487 it was decided to make many parts simultaniously for three locomotives. Much time is spent in the machine shop on "setup". To save time in the long run, they made three sets of driver boxes three sets of shoes and wedges..., anything they could they made three sets at a time. So 489 may take a little longer than 484 and 488 but not as long as 487. Also with three locomotives to maintain during the operating season and three to perform annual maintainance on in the off season, will slow them down.
497's running grear only has one season on it but needs boiler work. Running gear on the 480's and 490's is interchangable so we will see what gets borrowed from 497 for 489.
I am not sure of 463 besides boiler. Maybe Carlos can weigh in on the needs of 463.
Hope this helps.
Dan
