Phil, John Bishop and I stopped by there on our way back last Sept. after our visit with you and Karell at Gtown. The curator of the little museum was gonna charge us $5 per person to tour the site of the infamous South Park City now known from a cartoon series on Comedy Central.
Well when she saw John's boys and how exited they were to see the train, she let us in. The equipment is in various states of repair or disrepair. The locomotive has worn out drivers and many missing parts that would not preclude its return. It has a nice 5 chime D&RGW Nathan on it.
The caboose is one of the few long Rio Grande hacks that is in complete condition inside. It was missing the cap to the stove pipe and rain and snow water was getting inside and damaging the stove and floor. I mentioned this to the nice lady in the gift shop as we purchased some items and offered to send them a new piece. She said ok and I got the card with an address and sent one out in November of last year.
I have not heard a response since.
The locomotive is former United Fruit Co.#6 built by Porter in 1914 and weighs 45000 pounds. It was purchased for 600 dollars and cost over 5000.00 to ship in 1966. Maybe they would like their money back in exchange for another Porter we both know about?
