We were there on a Rocky Club trip shortly after the 492 hit the rock. The story we got was that the engineer, who had neen on that run for years,noticed that the usual profile of the cliffs had changed and immediately "wiped the slate" but was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the rock. I believe it was around a curve from where he set the brakes. Anyway, the story was that it would have been much worse if it hadn't been for the observant engineer.
