Due to futher line closures and mayour rebuilding over the next years the flavour will vanish here too. I have some of the maps for closures on my desk right now and it is frustrating. I started here building lines not removing them. A lot of old signal boxes and signals will be removed during the next years and new electronic interlocking towers will take over.
Some of the most "picturesque" lines are closed or will close soon (Lack of passenger or goods)
Some preservation societies are doing well but they lack money too. A Group of 150 people could not keep up a rr line of 45 miles with 34 crossings, 4 tunnels and 65 bridges. Not without sponsors or public money and some competeting tourist rrs within 25 miles radius.
So hurry up to see the rest.
A lot of new and rebuilt narrow gauge lines are on the way from 2 ft up to meter gauge. THat maks some hope.
