1976 was about the end of things in West Germany. They got rid of the last Pacifics in May of 1975, so I went over one last time in March. Rode the cab up and back on 012-075 which mostly ran at 72 mph(120Kil). A few years earlier the speed limit was 140K(84 mph). Those three cylinders sounded cool accelerating from station stops.
To stay somewhat on topic on our 1974 trip we shot some steam in Austria including the Vordernburg line, and a narrow gauge line with one end point being a place called Gross-Gerungs.
This was a quaint little operation that had narrow gauge flat cars which carried standard gauge cars. I think we chased one train a couple of hours, and nice sunny day.
