One thing looking at all these German photos reminded me of is how little flavor we have left on the U.S. Railroads. But in Germany for example, when they run steam again, it looks almost like it did in regular service 30-40 years ago. Ancient stone viaducts, signal towers, signals, stations, clean manicured buildings, and other old-world structures. They probably saved more roundhouses and engine sheds also.
You gotta hand it to the Germans for preserving so much steam heritage also. I guess they are trying to keep up with the British, and I hope both race full-steam ahead and continue to do such magnificent jobs.
