D&RGW dual gauge idler-coupler flats

March 16, 2005 12:22AM
At the CRRM there is an idler flat for dual gauge switching (X3050) and at Antonito, CO there is another (010793). They are fairly short, maybe 25 feet, have dual couplers and raised handrails on the ends for switchmen. I assume they were used at places like Alamosa and Antonito with dual gauge track yards. Just wondering about the history of the cars, whether they were shop built or cut down from some other cars, how many there were and how many are left. Any drawings around?
