Not to mention a few completely wrong things done on the Jupiter:
The smokebox still has a slight extension put on when it was in Central America..
The engine is finished in Wine, when it should be Lake (locomotive is the newest of the 3 818Cs, although in actuallity Joop is a 8-18-C 1/2.)
The Tender tank is not postioned correctly on the frame.
The stack is not right. Anyone who has seen either of the 2 known photos that show it in service, know the Jupiter had a very unusuaul stack. Bascially the stack is a 'stereotypical diamond'
As for runnability, never. Not only is the boiler (apparntly) an empty shell, but there is no where to run the engine, and that is not what the Smithsonian is in business for.
WIth the likelyhood of a someday run for the Sonoma, I dont think it hurts for one of them to truely be retired.
