The property 'down the hill' at the Inn is tiny. THey run a 2 foot gauge line with a diesel (they own a steam engine from Germany that has never run there). They have a small loup, which maybe once a year they run Argent Lumber Company #5 on. I dont know how famamliar you are tiwh Argent #5, but its tiny. I doubt the radius of the curve is something our 5 can even handle...let alone ignoring the fact that it would be the most boring 1000 feet ride youve ever been on.
That was the old plans you were reading when John Christianson had more sway in the group. Nowadays he spends more time in Europe than he does in the musuem. When it came down to it, an operation wasnt reality. It just isnt possible right now, and wont be - probably for at least 10-15 years.
I do not know how this reputation for 'rebuilding the NCNG' came about and stuck, as several people here have mentioned it (such as when the D&S was auctioning off cars someone chimed in - "well groups like the NCNG can always use rider gons" - WHAT?). At the NCNG we are going to stick to Sierra Nevada railroading. We are not just a grab anything narrow gauge group. Sure, we have a D&RGW stock car but they came with NCNG 5 and will probably be sold or scrapped at some point.
Ed - not griping at you for it, the magazine article was just day dreaming. We have an oddly shaped peice of land that basically will never allow for operation. Sac Brick runs back in forth for demostration once a month or so, but eventually its owner (please do not mention names anymore Ed, he is very private) will take Sac to his own land when he lays some 3 foot gauge track.
The Heisler will probably replace Sac Brick in such demostration service. But thats it. We also want to restore the WS&CV motor car we have the remains of so we can take it to Ardenwood, CA or possibly the CSRM. (NOT colorado, dont ask)
