right on madjack....
the 90's are good for one more loaded freight car on the hill. But, in reality, the tonnage rating is the same. You could get an extra car up there, I recall doing it a few times, but it took all morning. Freight trains didn't care how long it takes as long as you made it. Passenger trains need to run somewhat on schedule. To make time, the 480's and 490's are treated the same.
Yes, 497 came to the C&TS with 46" drivers (1" oversize tires). It was really a K-34 or something like that. It did not pull as well as any of the 480's we ran.
